Balanced Practice Yoga & Ayurveda Retreat Kerala
One week of Yoga and Ayurveda in the tropical paradise of Kerala. Journey to the homeland.
We are delighted to announce our Yoga & Ayurveda Retreat in Kerala, South India, taking place 15-21 March 2027. Join Liz Bennett and Amelia Disspain as they return to India to hold retreat for the first time since 2019. Let us introduce you to the hermitage: secluded beaches, serene hidden backwaters, vibrant Keralan culture and ancient temples. Embark on a Kerala yoga retreat where tranquility meets tradition, and experience wonderment at a gentler pace.
For over ten years Amelia and Liz have been guiding yoga retreats together, sharing a deep love of practice, teaching, travel, and the quiet transformation that unfolds when people step out of daily life and into sacred space. Returning to India together feels like a homecoming — a chance to weave their shared devotion to Yoga and Ayurveda in the land where both traditions were born.
Kerala is often described as the heartland of Ayurveda. For thousands of years its lush landscapes, medicinal plants and lineage-based traditions have supported healing practices that honour the body as an intelligent, self-regulating system. Here Ayurveda is not an add-on but a way of life, embedded in daily rhythms, food, medicine and relationship to nature. Practising yoga and Ayurvedic rituals in Kerala offers not just technique but a felt sense of continuity, devotion and living tradition. This retreat is offered as a pilgrimage — a journey across continents and inward toward clarity, meaning and renewal.
Travel opens the mind and softens the edges of who we think we are. Many participants return from journeys like this feeling lighter, clearer and more connected to their aliveness — not because time has reversed, but because vitality has been restored. We invite you to join us in Kerala for a special week of yoga, Ayurveda, reflection and connection, held within one of the most nurturing landscapes in the world.
Venue & Accommodation
Set on the serene Malabar Coast, the hermitage was born from a “vision of service with heart.” For nearly thirty years this sanctuary has quietly shaped a new language of luxury — rooted in presence, authenticity and deep respect for place. Only a small number of guests are received at any one time, creating the feeling of arriving at a gracious private residence where every detail is considered and care is woven into the experience.
Accommodation is modelled on traditional fishermen’s huts. Surrounded by hibiscus and frangipani gardens, light, palm-roofed cottages blend traditional Keralan architecture with contemporary design and high-quality natural products. Each cottage offers privacy, comfort and individuality with views to pool, gardens or the sea. With teak floors, high ceilings, locally handmade wooden furniture and antique and contemporary objets d’art from Kerala, the ambiance is charming yet offers modern comforts. Sleep deeply in large, high-quality beds (arranged as double or twins as required), bathe in your open-air bathroom, sip tea on your shaded veranda and soak in the scenery.
Palm-lined pathways and sweeping views of the Arabian Sea invite your nervous system to soften. Sit and see early-morning dolphins, watch birds over the small lagoon, be lulled by the waves or spend evenings under a brilliant canopy of stars.
Yoga on Retreat
Your yoga sessions take place in the tranquil natural surroundings of the Patanjali Yoga Hall, sheltered by coconut palms and cooled by balmy Arabian Sea breezes. Each day includes two classes, thoughtfully guided by senior teacher Amelia Disspain and yoga therapist and physiotherapist Liz Bennett. Together they bring decades of teaching experience and a commitment to intelligent, individualised practice within a supportive group setting.
- Morning classes are dynamic and physical, designed to awaken the body, build strength and mobility, and cultivate vitality. These sessions weave asana, pranayama and meditation into a complete, integrated practice that prepares you for the day while deepening breath awareness.
- Afternoon sessions are gentler and more therapeutic, drawing on restorative practices, mindful movement and subtle breath work to promote deep rest and healing.
With over fifty years of teaching experience between them, Amelia and Liz are skilled at tailoring group classes to meet individual needs. Whether your intention is to build strength, restore mobility or cultivate long-term wellbeing, each practice is guided with care and precision, supporting renewal in body and mind.
Nourishment on Retreat
Food is central to the healing experience, and each meal is prepared with the same care and intention as our yoga and Ayurvedic programmes. At the heart of the retreat centre — dedicated to the Goddess of Nourishment — meals are predominantly vegetarian and Ayurvedic, composed to balance the Doshas. The dining hall opens on all sides to lush gardens and sea breezes; evenings are lit by soft candlelight, inviting presence and slow, mindful eating.
For those who wish, fresh locally caught fish can also be enjoyed at the beachside restaurant named after a local goddess. Longboats bring in the day’s catch each morning, prepared simply and beautifully alongside nourishing breakfasts, fresh salads and light meals. Kerala’s rich history and cultural diversity yield varied cuisine; our chefs incorporate Indian, Middle-eastern and European flavours with an Ayurvedic twist.
